About Me

Hello, I’m Stephen Pierce

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Communication from Western Carolina University. Through my coursework, I’ve practiced succinct communication for professional settings (both on paper and through speech) and imaginative, descriptive prose for my original stories. However, English isn’t the only language I’ve practiced. I also earned a minor in the Japanese language, because communication is intercultural as often as it’s personal.

Throughout my college career, I’ve worked to improve my professional writing skills and become a distinguished voice in student literature. During my tenure as head editor of The Nomad, WCU’s student-run literary magazine, I oversaw the development of two issues, organized two creative writing contests, and created our first website. I also worked as a tutor at the Writing and Learning Commons, where I assisted other students in improving their essays and becoming better writers. I worked multiple internships during my time at school, gaining valuable practice in scientific writing and non-profit enterprising. Outside of class, I got involved in campus ministries and activist groups.

Ever since my childhood, I’ve been passionate about writing fiction. My short stories stretch the boundaries between reality and insanity, and my longer narratives feature complex characters, engaging mysteries, and unexpected twists. I’ve written television scripts, a one-act play, and online games. All of them highlight diverse perspectives of our world and question what it means to be human. However, my favorite genre to write in is traditional locked room mysteries, which combine Gothic style with ingenious puzzle plots. I’ve written short stories and a novel in this genre, and plan to write more.

My friends have described me as creative, funny, and remarkable. I’m hard-working, and my academic transcript proves it. I can be relied on to complete my work on time and at an excellent quality. I look forward to bringing these qualities to the workforce. I enjoy reading in my spare time and have created a blog where I review fiction I’ve enjoyed—often using them to comment on how their themes influence my own life.
